ActFast offers a range of training courses for 14 to 19 year olds and occasionally younger (subject to discussion) which provide the learner with a solid introduction into the world of motorcycles. Topics covered include:

• Basic construction & maintenance
• Safe handling
• Rider awareness
• Health & Safety
• First Aid

Learners also have the opportunity to achieve credits throughout the course which can contribute towards an ASDAN qualification.

Why Motorcycles?

Well, the simple answer seems to be that it works! The majority of our learners are referred to us by a variety of agencies – often their behaviour can be challenging. In our view, when many of the more traditional methods have failed, ActFast has a proven record of success in helping the learner to re-evaluate their situation and identify more positively with themselves and their community. Throughout the programme, the emphasis given to all our activities, whether class-room based or practical, is directed towards assisting the learner to improve in the following key areas:

• Confidence building
• Listening & speaking
• Team building
• Working independently
• Helping the individual to recognise and build on their strengths/weaknesses
• Motivation

It is not a soft option either . . . we have clear boundaries as to what constitutes acceptable behaviour so that the learner is neither a danger to themselves or others (we take health & safety very seriously) but above all, we expect every learner to participate and contribute to the best of their abilities.

We also work closely in partnership with external agencies such as The Fire Service, Police, Youth Offending Teams, Connexions etc who provide valuable input at various stages throughout the course and this is supported by talks on sexual health, drug awareness and substance abuse.
