About the Role:

As our SENCo, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that children with learning difficulties and disabilities have the opportunity to achieve their full educational potential. You will have a mixture of teaching duties and leadership responsibilities, including supervising the teaching of children with disabilities and special educational needs in classrooms, training teachers, and identifying children with special needs.

SENCo Duties and Responsibilities:

Ensure that school policies and procedures are in line with the latest governmental SEN policies and regulations.

Ensure that schoolteachers have the knowledge and skills to carry out SEN policies and to teach children with special learning requirements to a high standard.

Ensure that the school is equipped with adequate equipment and facilities for special educational needs, including wheelchair accessibility and audio-visual learning aids.

Prepare and lead SEN training for teachers and teaching assistants.

Assess the specific educational needs of children with learning disabilities and provide recommendations for their support.

Produce regular reports and updates on the educational progress of children to senior teachers and parents.

Provide one-on-one teaching support to children with learning difficulties in the classroom.

Provide referrals for children to receive support outside of school hours, from therapists, medical specialists, or tutors.

Person Specification: Qualifications and Training:

Qualified teacher status.

Evidence of professional development relevant to this role.

​

Experience:

Successful experience in teaching and supporting students with special educational needs.

Experience in leading or coordinating SEN provisions is desirable.

​

Skills and Knowledge:

Good knowledge of legislation and guidance on SEN requirements.

Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Ability to build effective working relationships with staff and other stakeholders.

Good IT skills, including previous use of relevant educational software.

​

Personal Qualities:

High expectations for all pupils and belief in bringing out the best in all.

Commitment to upholding and promoting the ethos and values of the school.

Ability to work under pressure and prioritise effectively.

Commitment to maintaining confidentiality at all times.

SENSO 

SENSO required at Act Fast NL Ltd

​Job Description: Special Educational Needs Support Officer (SENSO)Location: Act Fast Independent School

​

Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: £26,000

​

Role Purpose:

We are looking to appoint an experienced caring and committed individual to support the Inclusion Lead to develop the highest standard of Special Educational Needs provision for our pupils. The successful candidate will have experience and knowledge of working in a school, be extremely organised, possess excellent record keeping skills and have an extensive understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and the varying and broad range of pupil needs. They will support in the preparation, delivery and recording of annual and interim reviews as directed by the Inclusion Lead.

​

Person Specification Qualifications and Training:

GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent) Grade C or above

Proficient in Microsoft Office packages

​

Experience:

Experience working in a school environment

Understanding of the SEND Code of Practice

In preparing for annual reviews

 

Skills and Knowledge:

Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills

Knowledge and awareness of the curriculum offered by the school

Knowledge of how pupils learn and how additional needs might impact on this

Strategies to support a range of learning needs effectively

Personal Qualities:

Caring and committed attitude

Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues

High level of accuracy and attention to detail
