Sport & Physical Education

Intent, Implementation & Impact

Intent

At Act Fast NL, we recognise the importance of Sport and Physical Education (P.E) and the role it has to play in promoting long-term, healthy lifestyles and making a positive impact on physical, mental health. The intent of our PE curriculum is to provide all students with high quality Sport and P.E provision, not only as a participant but in leadership roles such as coach or choreographer. It is our vision for every child to succeed and achieve their potential as well as lead physical active lifestyles beyond school life. We strive to inspire our students through fun and engaging P.E lessons that are enjoyable, challenging, and accessible to all. Through our teaching of P.E, we will instil our core values and transferable skills such as resilience and respect as well as providing them with opportunities to take part in competitive sports through our staff verses students competitions and extra-curricular programmes.

The Independent School Criteria covered in Sport are:

      Physical control and co-ordination;

      Tactical skills and imaginative responses;

      Evaluate and improve their performance;

      Basic principles of fitness and health.

Implementation

      Pupils have full access to the Physical Education National Curriculum which is differentiated to meet pupils’ learning needs and styles.

      Via a variety of physical activities in curricular and extra-curricular programmes.

      Through fun and engaging PE lessons that are enjoyable, challenging, socially supportive and accessible to all.

      Providing opportunities for repetition to embed knowledge, increasing the chance of information recall and to integrate new knowledge into larger ideas.

      Through the provision of leadership and officiating opportunities.

      Via links with external clubs and organisations.

Impact

      Students leave school wanting to be physically active, maintaining a lifetime involvement in sport through participation, officiating and/or leadership.

      Students gain a lifelong appreciation of the benefits of regular physical activity and sport, enjoyment through involvement, and the development of transferable physical character traits and skills.

      Students have the motivation (attitude to learning) to utilise their physical and emotional skills in an independent and effective way in order to live happy and healthy lives.

      Academic students have an ability to gain employment within sport or access recognised Colleges or other institutions to further study sport related courses.
